Upholding its commitment to social responsibility and humanitarian values, the Sylhet Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry has extended support to winter-affected people through a blanket distribution programme in different areas of Sylhet. The initiative took place on 23rd January, 2026, Friday. On this occasion, blankets were distributed among persons with disabilities at Green Disable Foundation, located on Jallarpar Road in the city and among students of Mahadul Quran Nurania Hafizia Madrasa on Airport Road. The programme was attended by the President of the Chamber’s Board of Directors, Lubana Yesmin Shampa, along with Directors Mrs. Shama Haque Chowdhury, Sayma Sultana Chowdhury, Rehana Afrose Khan, Rehana Faruk Shirin, Asma Ul Hasna Khan, Gazi Zinath Afza, Shahana Akther, and Tahmina Hasan Chowdhury. Speaking at the event, President Lubana Yesmin Shampa said, “During this harsh winter, standing beside vulnerable and distressed people is our moral responsibility. A blanket may not be a luxury, but for someone, it can be a means of survival. Even a small act of support can bring great comfort when it comes with sincerity. If we all come forward together, the suffering of winter can be reduced to a great extent.” She further mentioned that the initiative was taken purely from a sense of humanitarian duty. Although the programme had been planned earlier, its implementation was slightly delayed due to the Chamber’s ongoing scheduled activities. She emphasised that the Sylhet Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry does not work only for the development of women entrepreneurs; it is also committed to serving social and humanitarian needs without discrimination. She also highlighted that more comprehensive plans are in place for the future. Director Shama Haque Chowdhury said, “During winter, the poor and helpless suffer the most. This blanket distribution is our small effort to ease their hardship. We believe that people exist for one another, and from that belief comes this initiative.” She expressed hope that the blankets distributed among persons with disabilities and madrasa students would bring them much-needed warmth and comfort. She added that the Chamber has undertaken broader future plans and aims to implement them gradually with the cooperation of people from all walks of life in Sylhet. Through this initiative, the Sylhet Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry once again demonstrated that alongside promoting women entrepreneurship, it remains equally dedicated to humanity, compassion, and social responsibility.
